We grow weary; the Lord does not!

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Good Sunday Morning –

Today I present you with the opportunity to perform a One Act Play called “Motivation.” So, grab a family member, each of you choose a part (the Me or the You) and then have at it . . .

MOTIVATION

Me - What we've got here is failure to communicate.

You - You talking to me?

Me – Yes, I’m talking to you.

You -  Go ahead, make my day

Me – You need to shape up; you need to snap out of your funk; for God's sake, pull yourself together man. You're going into the forest after all. Got to have your wits about ya...

You – But I can’t,... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locus. It wasn't my fault. I swear to God!

Me - Enough excuses; it don't matter if you are 35 years old, thrice divorced and live in a van down by the river.

You – But the first step towards failure is trying.

Me - Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Do not let what you can not do interfere with what you can do.

You – But I was always told – If at first you don’t succeed, give up and try something else.

Me - Try not. Do—or do not. There is no try.

You – But the longer I put it off, the more comfortable I become.

Me – Listen, there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

You – Oh my Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

Me - You see . . . In this world, there's two kinds of people, my friend - those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

You - But what if I don't want to dig?

Me - Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young may stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not by faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

You - Really, tell me more.

Me - Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

You - So what are you telling me?

Me - Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58. In other words, cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 and give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

You – Oh, now I understand . . . we on a mission from God….

Me – Yes, now you get it.

The End!

So pour yourself a cup of coffee then sit back, take a bow for your performance, then relax, for God is with you, and take solace in knowing that this is the day that the Lord has made; may you rejoice and be glad in it.
