Merry Christmas,
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? You are? Great, then let me tell you that you better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout . . . why, I'm telling you why. . . it’s because I know a guy. Know a guy to do what you say? I know a guy to help you with what ails you, I know a guy to ease your burdens, I know a guy that sees you when you’re sleeping and knows when you’re awake . . . oh sorry, I got distracted, which is quite easy to do this time of year.
OK, let me try again, so as we head full steam ahead toward Christmas, I hesitate to ask you (for fear of putting additional stress on you) but are you ready? Do you have what you need for under the tree? what about for on the dinner table? or what about to celebrate a birthday? You would if you too knew a guy. Fortunately, you do know a guy . . . come let us adore him - Christ the Lord. He is your guy, because with him, all is calm, all is bright.
Still not with me, let me set the stage for you. It was Christmas Eve . . . it was a silent night, a holy night; the weather outside was frightful; baby it was cold outside; the stars in the bright sky, looked down where he lay; it was the night of our dear savior’s birth; there was joy to the world, the Lord had come, the earth had received her king; on that first Noel, it was a bright time, it was the right time, to rock the night away; Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
OK, so now where was I . . . oh yea, you were looking for a guy; and I was telling you that you already know a guy; you already know a guy that can help you. No, I am not talking about Santa, although this time of year he is generally regarded as “the man” . . . I’m talking about our Lord, Jesus . . . remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas day and “nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 (except maybe if you want a hippopotamus for Christmas). The true light, which gives light to everyone, had come into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him. John 1:9-10. For unto us, was born, that day in the city of David, a savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11. See, you don’t need my help . . . you already got a guy.
So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, sit back and relax, . . . you got this, because you know a guy . . . so go ahead and have a wonderful christmastime . . . and while you’re at it, take solace in knowing that this is the day that the Lord has made (and Christmas is a day he made for the whole world); may you rejoice and be glad in it.
Jeff Bergstrom
P.S. This is where I normally remind you to support CLC, the community and the world, but since this is the season of giving, I don’t think I need to remind you.
P.P.S. I’d have a blue Christmas without you (glad you’re with me so I don’t) . . . and although it’s been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you.
